Luxembourg language classes
In order to satisfy a demand for Luxembourg language learning in London, tutor Eddie Bohnert, a native Luxembourger, set up weekly classes in 2009. There were six courses in all. The lessons took place on Saturdays from 10.00am to 12.00pm, originally in Fleet Street, then in Cheapside, in the City of London.
The lessons were primarily aimed at novices, and were ideal for people with a Luxembourgish partner, former students of the European and International Schools, individuals wanting to apply for citizenship, and for all those with an interest in Lëtzebuergesch.
As no satisfactory textbooks could be found, the tutor compiled hundreds of pages of his own handouts, covering the vocabulary, grammar and usage of the Luxembourg language. In addition, the classes covered the geography, history and customs peculiar to the Grand Duchy.
The students wrote these glowing reviews.
The courses would not have been possible without the generous support of Rosetta Translation.
During the initial years, The Luxembourg Embassy was instrumental in promoting the classes to the expatriate community.
